After 20 years, our very first employee, Peter Dagsberg retires. Today is his last day and therefore we had a chat with him about his time in Jayway.

When and how did you start working at Jayway?
My first day was the 21st of August 2000, so it’s been exactly 20 years. I was the very first employee, employed by my brother and Jayway’s founder, Thomas Dagsberg.

What has been your role throughout the years?
It has been the same all the way. I’m a developer. I started out as a Java developer. But today I’m both frontend, backend…  fullstack actually. Very much like the development of Jayway as an organization. We started as a 100% java-focused company and now we can deliver it all.

Why have you chosen to stay with Jayway for the past 20 years?
In the beginning, it was the java language that caught my interest. Later it was the whole experience of starting a new company, seeing it grow, and follow the journey – and also because my brother forced me to stay. 🙂

What do you take away with you?
The journey from the very beginning in Malmö and to where we are now, a fullstack company, in different locations and countries. That is really something.

More personally, I would say the way we work with new technology at Jayway. All the innovative initiatives we have started and been a part of, like Øredev (Our yearly developer conference). But most importantly, I will remember a lot of interesting co-workers and the ‘sharing is caring’ mindset. That has been our mantra from day one in Jayway. Sharing knowledge is not only internally, but also to other companies and in the projects, you work with.

What are your last words of wisdom to new Jaywayers?
Keep sharing!

On a last note, what are you planning to do now?
Well, as I’m retiring I look forward to continuing my salsa, tango, and bachata practice.

From “choreographing” complex code to dancing bachata – we know that you will be equally successful! We kindly thank Peter for the hard work and his dedication to Jayway for the past 20 years. We all wish him the best and good luck moving forward.

We are really proud to be the kind of company where people want to dedicate so many years of their life. To us, it means that we still keep growing, evolving, and stay relevant to all the people that make Jayway, Jayway.

Thank You to everyone who has been pushing Jayway to the next level and to all those who still do!
